ATTAPULGITE - ORAL

(at-uh-PULL-gite) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Diasorb, Donnagel, Kaopectate, Parepectolin 

USES:  Attaplugite is used in the treatment of diarrhea.  It wroks by absorbing fluid in the intestine.  

HOW TO USE:  This medication is usually taken after each loose boewl movement.  Follow package instructions. <br/>Chewalbe tablets must be chewed thoroughly before swallowing.  The lqiuid form should be shaken well before pouring each dose.  <br/><br/>

SIDE EFFECTS:  This mediaction is generally well tolerated.  Stomach upset may occur. If diarrhea is not relieved after two days of using that medication or you develop a fever or stomach cramps, notify your doctor.  <br/><br/>If you notice other effects not lsited above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. <br/>

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor if you have: heart disease, bowel problems, allergies.  This medication sohuld be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy.  Discuss the risks and benefits with your dcotor.  Consult your doctor before using any medication whlie breast-feeding.  <br/><br/>

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your dotcor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmaicst approval.   

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.  

NOTES:  To maintain normal bowel habits, it is important to drink plenty of fluids (4-6 8 ounce glasses a day), eat foods high in fiber and roughage and exercise regularly.  <br/>

MISSED DOSE:  If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schdeule.  Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up. 

STORAGE:  Store tablets at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 dergees C) away from heat and light.  The liquid form of that medication may be stoerd in the refrigerator to improve taste.]]></description>
